News of Disney parks to have Marvel Heroes appear sooner then later
Some interesting news came out of the World of Color premiere at Disney's California Adventure park. LA Times got to speak to CEO of Disney Bob Iger and was ask if any Marvel attractions would be coming to Disney theme parks soon. Bob Iger was quoting as saying
Quote:
"We're just now considering all of our different options, so it would be premature to say when or where in the parks you would see Marvel characters -- but I think it's safe to say that you're going to see some of those great Marvel characters walking around in the future."
Word of this quote got a lot of fans both Disney and Marvel on there tip toes. Fan sites, forums, and news outlets have started to speculate that California Disneyland, and Disney's California Adventure may be the first to have Marvel show up in the theme parks.
GeekofDoom.com has posted that Marvel's arrival to Disney parks could happen in the early future(possibly next 2 years). Both GeekofDoom.com and Deadline have gotten word of the contract that Marvel has with Universal. They report that while Florida may be hard to break there contract obligation, very lose terms at set for area West like California, Asia and Europe. Also Universal Hollywood in 2008 didn't renew there license agreement for that park. This resulted in the lose of characters meets and possible Marvel attractions in a propose expansion of the park. Here's a quote from Deadline.com
Quote:
Universal Studios Hollywood actually had Marvel characters doing "streetmosphere" until January 2008, when they didn't renew the license. In fact, Marvel wanted an expansion of the brand into the park and pushed for an attraction to be built using their characters, like Islands Of Adventure. But Universal didn't want to spend the money. Also Marvel wanted more moolah for the licensing agreement renewal, which Universal wanted to cut back. In the end, Universal severed ties with Marvel for the West Coast park, while maintaining an amicable relationship for the Orlando park.
So, with Marvel not having a good grip in California, possible rumors of having Disneyland and DCA make early entires of Marvel into the theme parks seems like a good bet. Also, some Disney podcast have been hearing that Marvel might get there own land outside the US parks. Plans are to have a Marvel land at the new Disney China parks. A lot of talk has been going around that Disney might forgo the Tomorrowland tradition design and opt for a Marvel land instead.
All that said you can see Marvel already at the parks in terms of merchandise. Marvel has starting appearing at the theme parks and online store fonts.
I bet you see something come out of Disneyland or DCA very soon I think. Maybe, some lesser name characters from Marvel, like the rumor AntMan might be on the Horizon. Here's counting the day's we lose Marvel Super Hero Island forever, but we may get a early taste on how Marvel will be treated at the Disney soon then you think.
