After leaving early from SFKK we drove to Kings Island near Cincinnati to get in a few night rides. I started off with their new B&M hyper, Diamondback. It offered loads of airtime, but nothing more so I was a bit let down by it. I understand that the primary purpose of a hyper is to provide nice floaty air, but the ride just felt too redundant after the mid course... Maybe having marathoned voyage the day before had skewed my opinion of coasters. Anyways, I was able to get in a few rides on Diamondback, a couple on Backlot Stunt Coaster, one on Firehawk and several on The Beast, including the front seat of the last train of the night. This coaster at night is so awesome. It is just a surreal experience, racing through the dark trees and tunnels with the cool wind in your face. almost relaxing. After that, I got a much needed night of sleep.
Throughout the course of the next 2 days I roamed the park hitting up assorted coasters and actually found a surprising love for the back seat on Son of Beast... yes, i am crazy. The days were hot as hell and even more humid, so it was pretty miserable out in the sun, but it also kept the lines pretty short with the exception of Flight of Fear, probably due to its air conditioned queue house.
It was a fun few days, but the sweltering weather was less than ideal and I have been to this park a few times before, so nothing was too much of a surprise. _________________ 71 Days, 43 Parks, 293 Coasters, 1 Epic Summer
i just got off of Goliath at SFoG and have now been on 4 B&M hypers. I know I am in the minority and will catch some flack for this, but Diamondback has been my least favorite of those 4. its just too gentle _________________ 71 Days, 43 Parks, 293 Coasters, 1 Epic Summer
Hey all, we are now officially in Day 2 of the Off-Season between the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Although it's sad for some, it's a good time for others to focus on family, friends and work.
Kings Island has already focused on work. As announced toward the end of the 2011 season, Soak City is coming! It didn't even take work crews a week to start construction for the All New Soak City in Mason, Ohio.
Don Helbig, KI PR Manager, sent me this picture to show that construction on the all new wave pool has started!
