New technology making planes land like birds coming to Disney Imaginerring for Tinker Bell show. @Web.MIT.EDU
MIT researchers have develop a technology that could make planes perch like birds onto landing structure. In essences this idea of having planes land on wires or runway’s without the need to throttle back on their motive could bring potential aeronautics devices less estate infrastructure to use in landings or take-offs. What makes this method interesting is robotics planes(UAV) or Disney’s animatronics could use this technology for future use in their programs.
Here video display of the plane landing technique.
MIT researchers are taking their tech on the road to California. The researchers have been showing the technology to Disney and the Air Forces. The researchers are quoted as saying
Quote:
....will be moving to California to take a job researching advanced robotics techniques for Disney, he hopes to continue collaborating with Tedrake. ‘I visited the air force, and I visited Disney, and they actually have a lot in common,’ Cory says. ‘The air force wants an airplane that can land on a power line, and Disney wants a flying Tinker Bell that can land on a lantern. But the technology’s similar.’

So, we could see this at your Disney theme park. Maybe, if you are a fan of Disney’s Wishes fireworks show where Tinker Bell fly’s down the castle, then this could be a step up from using real human beings. For those who haven’t seen this, check you this video of Tinker Bell from the Wishes fireworks.
You have to imagine the Disney got something plan after seeing this technology at work. Maybe a new and improve Tiki Room show. It’s all in your imagination as to what we could see.
Here’s a link to the story.

If they do make flying Audio Animatronics at the Disney level of quality, it would truly be something to see. Can you imagine having giant butterflies fluttering around the park?

Absolutely! You just made me excited about the concept JoseBob. Think what a technology like this could do for the underwater scenes in the Little Mermaid ride.
