Before Island of Adventure, or Marvel Superhero Island, there was project X. AKA Gotham City Batman theme park at Universal Studios Florida.

Back in the early 90’s after Universal Studios Florida had open, plans had already begun on Universal next theme park to complement the Orlando site. When the process begin in coming up with a new theme park many idea’s went by, like a “Blue Sky” process a lot of things got thrown up. But one in particular stood out. By the late 80’s and early 90’s one new film made a big splash in the movie industry.

@http://sgnewwave.com/
1989’s Batman was the biggest hit of the year.  With star power, visionary director Tim Burton, musical hit artist’s Prince’s, and comic book history all this led to one of the year’s biggest money maker and a tent-pole franchise.  This led Universal into considering Batman as the next IP to use for their new theme park in Orlando.

Under the great code name Project X, Unverisal Stuidos Creavtive designers went to work on bringing DC comics charaters into their theme park by basing them under the hit films of the time Batman (circa 80’s & 90’s).  The name they were using was “Gotham City” for this theme park.  This pictures above show’s concept design of the parks whole land and entrance.  The picture with the big Batman statue servers as the door way into Gotham City theme park and the first look at the Batcar. This was a interactive dark ride using the Batmobile as the ride system where you zoom around the preimeter of Gotham City and though Axis Chemcials factory where the Joker has control.  Many of these area’s resemble most of the plot from the 89 movie.  Here’s a picture of the chemical factory as the ride goes though it.

Now let going into the meat of the theme park of Gotham City. In this next picture there is a replica of Gotham City hall.  This was meant to house a Bat-Jet ride.  This City Hall will house a big queue, but something more important.  Almost all the buildings like City Hall would be built as real buildings.  Unlike the facades of other theme parks, where they use the buildings as sets and fake material to hide big brown sound stages, everything was going to be made REAL. Yep, the idea here was to make you fell  immerse in the world of Batman. The cars that were park in front of City Hall, the status showing the villains, the factory were going to be build as real-world buildings. This was all to make it feel that this was a real city, and you were not visiting a movie set. This sounds very familiar with anybody visiting Harry Potter over at Orlando. Stuff like handles on doors, real  cobber stone, etc.  Looks like they never forgot to use this idea later for Harry Potter.

The next concept art picture here shows the Gotham Opera House.  This would be the stage for a 4-D live action film attraction, a la T2-3D Battle Across Time. This concpet for the film and show would have Batman and Robin battle the Joker with help from Superman.  This would bring more of the DC characters into the theme park. This show is really something, so hang in there as there more to this film show attraction later in the post.

One of the coolest idea for the theme park was the Bat Signal.  Using some of the tech from Disney "Fantasmic," the would have the Bat Signal show up at night in a very viable way.

Now comes what’s to eat. Here are some link documents as well as concept of food that were going to be server. Also, the character they were going to used would be more from the DC universes, than the Batman films. Also from this leak document there detail plans of what type of merchandise were going to be sold at this theme park.  So your main outdoor restaurant would be called “Gotham Cafe” simple enough.  The usually Pizza, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, and other common theme park food would be severed there.  Outside vending carts like “Mr. Freeze Ice Creamery” would be selling ice cream cones, sundaes, ie.   More importantly there would also servered “Penguin Pops”.

Now what really sounded very impressive was many of the theme comic book restaurants. Here I going to used the quotes from the sources that I will link at the end of this post.
Quote:
First up is "The Joker's Diner, a fast food service restaurant done up in a fun-filled circus atmosphere interlaced with the Joker's perverse sense of humor. Menus pop out of menacing Jack-in-the-boxes and each food item is served in a Joker take home container. (If the place has waitresses dressed in green and purple chanting, "Love that Joker!" then I'll eat 3 squares a day here and never leave!)

Quote:
Next is "Penguin Pizza," a dive located near the waterfront with pool tables and a menu that offers hot and delicious pizza. The waiters are dressed in tuxedos and the Penguin himself makes appearances to dine with his most valued friends. He gives new meaning to the term "table hopping" as he moves about the parlor. (While the Penguin/Pizza connection is thin at best you gotta love having the Penguin moving about the restaurant as the owner.)

The last restaurant on the list is the best in my opinion. Imagine as you walk around the park you come upon an upscale, sit down restaurant done in a 1930's deco style. It's down the street and pulling you in. It's got that Brown Derby feeling of elegance and class. It's "Lex Luthor's Villains Club" and it's simply the finest restaurant in town. Inside there are deep booths and mysterious corners.
The walls are adorned with caricatures of some of Gotham's finest -- not celebrities -- but villains. Yes, you're about to dine in Lex Luthor's tribute to the criminal elite of Gotham City. Here in the shadows is where the most vile villains in the world meet to sup and plan their next caper. As your reservation is checked and you're escorted to your table you might find yourself dining right next to some of the most famous comic book Nemesis (is that the proper word? I'll have to consult the Mystery Men) in the world. The Joker, Catwoman, The Penguin, Brainiac, The Riddler and Two-Face are just some of the characters that eat here on a daily basis. It's an experience you won't soon forget where you'll dine on 4-star dishes as right next to you the Clown Prince of Crime plots his next battle with the Caped Crusader! (This proposal just makes me want to cry. I can't even begin to imagine how cool this would have been. The Marvel Mania Café was awesome but this would have been a completely immersive experience with great food and live character interaction. Who knows -- Batman himself might have made an appearance and staged a battle inside the restaurant. Now that's dinner and a show!)

@www.comics101.com
That Lex Luthor’s restaurant sound’s way to cool. It takes the idea of characters dinner into a new level.
Other DC characters would get there own theme restaurant. Here’s few from the Superman universes.  “The Metro” a half club and restaurant would have a “The Krypton Club” that would incorporate Krypton-green series of chambers as the deco would bring many of the Superman villains and heroes into the theme park. "Lois Lane's Metropolis Diner, Daily Planet Press Club, Smallville Soda Shop, are just a few of the ideas that would have been restaurants for the theme park.
Now here comes the interesting part of the park. A real night club would be open from inside and outside access of the park.  This would be a pre-city walk idea, before Universal City Walk would be built when IOA  started.  The night club would be called the Batcave.  A lot of this seem to share common ideas with Disney late Pleasure Island night club like "Videopolis."  This Batcave night club would included  "sci-fi elevator" that would be activated in the walls though out the club. This club would give you access to the Batlab or the computer center. Also, Catwoman’s Lair would also be at this club as part of it’s store. Selling fur (of course), glow sticks, bag’s, and many other etc stuff.  But here is the leak official document that tells all about this night club and Catwomen Lair.

So, the real money from theme parks comes from the merchandise that sold at the parks. Here more of what store types were being consider and what they would have. Another leak document here shows a Jokers shop and Dark Knight Gifts.

Here’s a cool bookstore based on Superman’s villian Brainiac’s.  This leak document gives an idea of a 1930’s scifi retro Buck Roger style store.

Here’s a list of other stores that are would be your run of the mill types of theme park store then the other ones with all that creative power.
Quote:

"The Bat Lab," a Sharper Image clone that sells high end electronic gadgets (this one got a permanent ink "NO" in the notes).

"The Fiddler's Sing-A-Long," where you can record your own tape of a top-40 song (another "NO").

"The Justice League Gallery," a DC Universe store with original art, collectibles and other limited-edition items for serious collectors (This one could have been possibly combined with another store, the mighty pen says and not nearly as cool as Brainiac's establishment says I).

"The Flash Messenger Service," a place to buy custom postcards and posters of guests as superheroes that can be mailed directly from the store itself! (Another idea not quite big enough for a store of its own but possible as an inclusion in another bigger retail outlet).

"The Atom," a miniature store with dollhouse collectibles, Matchbox vehicles, and hand-painted tin soldiers (Very doubtful says the notes. Very odd if you ask me).

"Paradise Island," custom-made jewelry and accessories for men and women (Paradise was lost since the notes indicate a flat NO on this one).

"Hawkworld," a store devoted to flying that sells model airplanes, aviation books and anything else related to soaring through the skies (This one didn't fly at all and was not pursued any further).

"Mr. Miracle's Magic Shop,", a place that sells what else...magic tricks (The notes indicate a big NO and also a plea to put an end to any more magic shops in the park. Anyone who has visited Las Vegas can attest to this quick-fix retail solution -- any space big enough for a guy to do the linking rings illusion is turned into a "Houdini's Magic Shoppe").

"Toy Master's Toy Store," your purveyor of unique toys from around the world. (Does it look like every DC villain no matter how obscure was on the verge of getting their own store? Guess they have something to fall back on if that life of crime doesn't work out.)

"Swamp Things" sells gifts from nature, fossils, nature books, world maps and educational toys (Remember that store from the mall a few years back called "Natural Wonders"? Neither do I but this proposal gets points just for that cool title).

Well, I guess you guy’s a tired of shopping. It’s time to take a ride and I mean awesome rides that’s the lure to this theme park.  Let’s begin now with the attractions.
Joker's House of Mirrors
-This would have been a walk-thought attraction base around a local carnival. People would walk though the house of mirrors trying to find a way out, but as you go though the mirrors the Joker himself would appear in the mirrors. As you traverse in this maze of mirrors a wrong turn would lead to blast from the floor and ceiling by air jets.

Superhero Training Camp
This area would be a obstacles and climbing course. Mainly theme from the DC universe and mostly likely for kids.  Much like Disneys DCA Redwood Creek Challenge area it does have one strange thing about it. It’s location would be in a area called “Adventure Island” which could have been a prelude to “Island of Adventure” land.

Big Top Ride
This was your basic centrifuge spinning ride base around a circus tent.

Jokers Merry-go-around
This was a strange and weird spin of the Merry-go-around ride. I don’t know if this was meant for kids, but it’s concept is really scary. So, here go’s, you get strapped
into these distorted and grotesque animals(does this sound like a tradition merry-go-around ride for kids).  As the rides get going around and around the whole carousal would rise up and the animals you are strapped too would begin to rise about 4 stories high before pulling back(really was this for kids?).  Still, this sounded so cool is wish somebody would take a chance to do this mix up in the carousal design.

The Jokers Fun-house
This would be a typical ride base around the “wild mouse ride system”.  For those who don’t the Wild Mouse ride system is a roller coaster track system where the cars make hairpin turns.  This fun house would be theme to Jokers sick and twisted ideas. Fog, dark light and other ticks would be used as you travel though the house. But the one thing interesting here was the the basis of Jokers fun-house traps.  If you a comic book fan or know the story, this fun-house would be incorporate the traps and settings from the famous Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's masterpiece story called “Batman: “The Killing Joke”.   This story line had Commissioner Gordon go though Joker’s Fun-house much like the comic it’s base on.  Here’s a scene from the comic “Batman: The Killing Joke”.

@DC
Here’s a cool rumor about this propose fun-house attraction.  Steven Speilberg had given input into the finale to this fun-house ride.  He might have given a extra element needed for the rides to finish riding a bit more bite then what was original propose.  But it’s just a rumor, right???  As you exit the ride you would have enter Jokers arcade(which seem appropriate enough given the cost to play those arcades).

Superhero Stadium
This area would house the "Justice League Games."  Areas based around Superman’s Fortress of Solitude, and the Justice League Hall of Justice would have you seen trophies and ice sculptures which would have been house in a ice castle.  The whole theme would show you of Superman exploits and lead to games center around the Justice League characters.

Now comes the midway games of course.  Here’s a list of standard DC theme Midway games.
Green Arrow's Archery Range  - Shooting arrows of course.

Batman's Batcuff Toss - nuff said

Flash's Light Game - a hitting of partners of light game. (wacko a mole only with lights and no moles). Sounds weak.

Wonder Woman's Golden Lasso Game - this game is very vague but seems to be one of those climbing ropes and tossing rings type of games mostly like what you see at carnivals or state fairs.

Green Lantern's Power Ring Beam - Much like those balloon shooting water gun games. You have to put on the power ring(That’s Green Lantern’s ring for all you noob’s) and aim it at a target where light would shoot out making something reach a moon and whoever first wins the prize.

The Outlaw Kid's Quick Draw - This is something from the 90’s era of gaming. Basically a quick draw game, but with DC characters. One thing here, the character is suppose to be Jonah Hex(A DC character) not Outlaw Kid. Outlaw Kid is a Marvel character, but hey Marvel ending up there anyway, right.

Aquaman's Undersea Adventure - Another Wacko-mole- game just hitting sharks. Lame

Robin's Skee Ball Alley - Hey who does’nt like skee ball. Mike Collins from Coaster Radio did a whole podcast about it. So, it must be good, right. Kidding, just kidding Skee ball cool too.

Zatanna's Magic Booth - A fortune telling booth only with the sexy magician herself telling your fortune. Not a bad thing to do considering how many fortune telling readings ending up trying to get a date with her.

Plastic Man's Pop A Shot - A basketball game shoot out only with Plastic Man as the ball. Ah, Gross!!!

So, now comes the grand lure of them all which is what we all come to do.
The E-Ticket attractions
Here, is where the meat of the park is all about. Riding those rides that are so awesome, it only needs to be ridden again.

What were the main E-ticket rides where here a list.

Race with the Joker Motion Simulator Ride

Batcar Interactive Adventure Dark Ride/Coaster Combination

The Batjet Adventure Hanging Coaster Dark Ride

Superman Simulator - "Ride the skies with the Man of Steel"

Justice League Mindwarp - Enter the world of Virtual Reality and join the fight to save the universe.

Like the list, want to know more. Let check them out.
The first ride to talk about was the “Batcar Interactive Adventure Ride”. Now back at the begin of this very long post(man I think this has been my longest one ever) This was a Dark Ride/Coaster Combination." Much like the picture shown here.

The ride would follow the plot of the 1989’s Batman where you leave the Batcave and end up stopping the Joker at the chemical plant.
Another E-ticket ride propose was the boat ride. Yes, Batman also drives a boat too. The ride would have you assist Batman in shoot traps that Joker had laid around Gotham City. Much like Men in Black: Alien Attack ride it would go around the theme park with you having to rack up a high score in order for you to save the city.

Another E-ticket ride was called Race with the Joker.
-motion simulator where you board a Batman-themed ride vehicle
The Batmobile or the Batjet would be your vehicles and Batman would set coordinates onto the Joker's.  Here is a leak document of this ride concept.

Joker’s Wild would come from a trim down version of  the “Race with the Joker” ride only a bit more realistic. Riders would pilot a Batman vehicle on a adventure of a lifetime.
The guest would have to enter Wayne Manor which would serve as the ride queue. The queue would have Alfred greek guest and guide them though a secret passage to the Batcave where you would load on to the ride vehicle. Once on the ride Batman would pop up on display telling you that he needs help locating the Joker. You would blast out of the Batcave and find the Joker in a taxi cab. But the Joker isn’t without his tricks and guns would pop out of the taxi cab and start shooting at you. When your vehicle is damage from the gun shoot’s you reach the end of the road which is a bridge, but Batman manage to transform you vehicle into the Batjet. Did I mention that all of this is real, not a motion simulator.
As you fly in the skies of Gotham City you engage in aerial dogfight with the Joker. Want to see what it looks like. Here’s leak concept art.

Hey did I mention all of this was real, not simulator movie ride.
As your fly around fighting the Joker you follow him into the Chemical plant. You enter though pipes that might feel something out of the Darth Star scene from “Return of the Jedi”.  Here’s another concept art of this chase.

Did I mention again, that all of these was suppose to be real effects.
Well all said and done as you fight Joker in the chemical plant who would show up, but the Penguin.  He would shoot at you causing your Batjet to crash out of the chemical plant which lead to a head on collision with the Joker, but Batman saves the day by grabing the Joker from his ride and the riders ending back at the Batcave.
*did I mention that this was a real ride system, not motion simulator ride. Huh!
Another concept for the “Joker Wild” ride as a roller coaster based on the design of Six Flag’s Ninja(anybody a fan of that coaster, HMMM).  Here something that is different then what Six Flag’s does, because they would use the whole theme park area as your layout of the ride.  As people dine and shop, riders of “Joker Wild” would ride above until Jokers shoots some gas and you find yourself in a place called “Welcome to Jokerland”.  This would be a upside down version of the theme park.  This was the dark ride portion of the ride. Here’s a concept photo’s of this ride.

This is the dark ride part called “Welcome to Jokerland”

So, what do you think.  Was this a E-ticket ride or what? But wait there’s more.
It’s time for the SHOW
That’s right, shows themselves are a E-ticket attraction.  Not everybody likes them or seems them, but they are big header attractions that brings in the crowds.  So, what kind of shows were envision for this Gotham City Theme Park.  Well here goes, this is a leak document of some of the shows propose for the theme park.

As you can see, there were a lot of idea’s thrown around, but one idea stuck out and became good enough to have it’s own concept design propose.  Here’s a leak document of this show.

So, they using examples of other great shows like Siegfried and Roy Vegas show and Adventures of Conan two of which I miss and never got to experience. These are high bars to reach for due to the rave review and crowds to made them long lasted hits.
Now what kind of show would have this been. Well, it’s a lot of effects, a bit of character development, but a use of more DC characters then in the Batman world.  Here’s another leak document with more details of the show.

So,  basically you go to a opera house and while you there you become part of the show. As Bruce Wayne and **** Grayson(aka. Batman and Robin) show up at the special seating area located on stage something goes wrong.  The light’s goes off and you hear the Joker laughing though the sound system.  Now, guest become part of the action when Joker threatens the entire opera house unless Batman shows up.  Now other characters from the DC comics makes an their appearances like,  Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olson and Commissioner
Gordon.  The whole thing is setup to have all these characters in danger while we wait for Batman and Robin to show up.  Here’s a leak document from one of the early draft for the show.

Here’s a concept picture of the opera house that you would have seen the show in.

This show is really complex. I won’t try to summarize it here because there a lot of detail that incredible to read about.  So, I just have the basic idea here and I have leaks at the end of this post on how awesome this show was.  But if you want to see a little more about this show then here’s another leak document in treatment form on how the show would have progress.

Now here comes one of the highest concept design for a theme park show or attraction using VR technology.
A while back in this post I mention the Justice League Mindwarp. Now this attraction was suppose to be a sort of VR experience into acting out in the world of super heroes using the VR helmet tech and other VR technology. This concept was so highly involved that they called on a neurosurgeon into show to stimulate certain false assumption in the brain.   Want to know more here’s a leak document about this process.

That right there is a study on something that really was high concept.  This is was a “Blue Sky” type of attraction.  This attraction was a mind-altering experience in the true sense that fooling you mind and body into believing you were a super hero and using super powers. Want to see how far they were thinking. Check out this leak document.

For those who never been on The ExtraTERRORestial Alien Encounter, let say that other attraction like Soarin' Over California which are rave and beloved, this Justice League Mindwarp was something beyond that.
Here’s a quote from the propose idea that the neurosurgeon talk about.
Quote:
It is true that there are specific areas of the brain dedicated to specific functions, i.e., the visual cortex, the auditory cortex, the primary sensory cortex which responds to pain, touch, temperature, pressure; the motor cortex which is precisely linked to movements of certain muscles, and so on. These specific areas of the cortex can be stimulated quite precisely by using the onboard mechanisms, such as the eyes, ears and sensory receptors in the skin. It is possible to short circuit the onboard mechanisms and stimulate the brain directly, thus causing an artificial experience. At present this can only be done by direct electrical stimulation of the exposed brain. This requires and operation or a hole in the head. It is theoretically possible to accomplish such direct stimulation by means of induced current. A crude example of this is the charging device for an electric toothbrush. An induction coil in the charging holders stimulates a coil in the toothbrush handle. The two electrical devices are separated by layers of plastic. As far as I know, this had never been done or even contemplated in the brain, but it is a theoretical possibility and I think you could sell that as reasonable sci-fi. The helmet could be made of multiple induction coils arranged in the helmet so that each coil overlies a specific area of the brain. In order to create complex experience many thousands of coils would be needed and would have to be activated by computer-generated signals.

While the doctor may have not given a glowing endorsement to this VR mind warp idea. It’s still incredible to see just how high they were thinking for a theme park attraction.

Let now end in what could have been the greatest show on earth.
I’m not kidding about this show
We reaching the end of these concept and propose ideas for the Gotham City Theme Park.  But there was one attraction so grand, so big that would would have been seen by 10,000 to 20,000 in a day.  That a lot of big talk there. So, what could have it been. Well, it’s a show of course. But this was not any weak Six Flags show that using Batman. NO, this was grand level showmanship unlike the world has never seem. But, let’s no build this up let me show you.

What you seeing here on this picture show a show that would have rivall anything Disney, Vegas, or World of Color could only live up in theory.  Let me quote the what they say this show was about.
Quote:
"The biggest show in the world. Nothing less will do. Batman and Robin are pitted against their greatest villains in a non-stop action show that takes place on land, sea and air. The Joker, The Penguin and Catwoman plan to hold Gotham City hostage by stealing a nuclear missile."

Ok. This was a  live outdoor stunt spectacle "The Batman & Robin Action Adventure Spectacular!"  The way they wanted this show to be seen in having 3,000 guest for multiple showing could have reach that lofty goal of 10,000 to 20,000.
Seated in the amphitheater around the Gotham City Theme Park was the stage for this show. Across the lagoon you would see the skyscraper's and buildings that house the many attractions and shows, but the key to this was the building were real, not fake. That was what made this show important in the setting of the action. Remember, this whole park was build as real buildings. No sound stage or fake facades.
So, most of the show is in water. A lot of boats where use and theirs explosion, fireworks, and gunfire galore.
It’s starts off at the Axis Chemical Plant, where Gotham city patrol boats are in the area. Then a very BIG TV pops up with Commissioner Gordon warning the citizen of Gotham to stay indoors. The Joker has been threatening Gotham with insane demands, which unless meant could spell doom for Gotham City.
Suddenly a big boat appears with a trap cover over it. When the Joker laughter is heard the trap is removed to revealed a gunship boat. It starts attacking the chemical plant and patrol boats.  Here’s concept photo of the show that shows the action happening.

So, when all this mayhem is occurring, the Bat signal lights up. Behold Batman shows up to  stop Joker and what happens is a lot of shooting and chasing in the Batmobile. Here’s concept art of the shows action with the Batmobile.

So, after some good car chasing and action, Joker gets away.  But later Robin joins in on the action and both head back to the Batcave where they get a surprise transmission from the Joker and his friends The Penguin and Catwoman.  They tell Batman and Robin that they have manage to hijacking a warhead missile.  Unless Gotham is turn over to them the warfare will be fired right into the heart of Gotham city.  Here’s some more concept artwork from this event.

The action is spilt with Robin on a motorcycle and Batman on his Batboat taking on the villains. Among the action set pieces was the appearance of Penguin island. Here’s another leak photo of a blueprint of how big the show works.

There is a lot of boat action in this show here are more concept action design art work with the boats in play.

The action really heats up when Joker starts lunching the missile.  By then, Batman and Robin is in a race against time and quite a few villains.  Catwoman and Penguin keeps the dynamic duo busy while Joker activities his defense system. Both Batman and Robin use their vehicles to stop all the villains with mass action in a grand action opus.  Here’s a little more concept artwork from the show.

Now comes the end of the show.  Joker fires the missile and Batman must stop it by hooking on to the missile while in launching. This reminds be of The Batman and Robin movie from 1997 which had this scene at the beginning of the of movie. Anyway, Batman battle Joker and mange to stop the missile which ends with a big water explosion. Joker is being shown to be seen back at Arkham Asylum after the final battle and the crowd goes while in a show that put’s Waterwold to shame. Here’ more artwork about this big action show final act.

So, there it is.  The entire plan of what could have been the most unique theme park in the US. A lot of big concepts their, and very big “Blue Sky” thinking for this Gotham City theme park.  While, Island of Adventure became a solid hit, there sure a signs that many of the concept for this Gotham City theme park made it onto Island of Adventure design.

While none of the 80’s and 90’s movie version of Batman made it to the US parks. By this time Six Flags had adopted the comics book version of the character.  Only the Six Flags stunt shows featuring Batman had elements of the 80’s Batman films, except in the foreign parks.

Batman Adventure the ride was the only thing to come out from those late 80’s and 90’s movie version of Batman.  Warner Brothers Movie World theme park in Germany and Australia had commission a ride based on those Batman movies from the 80’s.  This was a motion simulator ride by the McFadden System, inc which had similarities to Star Tours.

The ride would be revamp in 2001 and called Batman Adventure the Ride 2. While new pre-show and voices were changed much of the ride remind the same according to Wiki.
Here’s video of the ride.

Here’s a very good video of the Batman the Ride 2.

and yes that is the voice of Batman for the very good Batman the anmainted series with Mark(Luke from Star Wars) Hamill as the Joker.
Here’s pre-show of the ride

Well that’s it.  That’s what might have been one of the most awesome theme parks since Dubi Marvel Island theme park.
So, a while back I posted a picture of DC merchandise being sold Universal Studios in Orlando.
Here’s a photo that.

I suggested that DC might be replacing Marvel Super Hero Island, since Disney bought Marvel.
Now the only DC property to be release by Universal Studios was the Swamp Thing movies and the TV show from the 80’s and late 90’s. Warner Brothers studios owns the DC ip’s, which has been license to the Six Flags Parks. So, here’s the rub. Marvel can’t stay at Universal forever, Bob Iger CEO of Disney has been quoted the Marvel would appear at the theme parks soon.
So, if you were Universal Studios theme park and had to find a way to save money on a future transition while find a hot IP to replace what option would you go for.  Swapping on Comic bok property with another may be the most obvious solution to do. DC comics are getting some heat in the movies business with films like Green Lantern, reboot Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and the biggest comic hit Batman the Dark Knight it may be a good trade. Maybe Disney will offer a deal for Marvel. Also, with Harry Potter being a hit for Universal Studios Orlando which is own by Warner Brothers, this could lead to a good relationship where a deal can be made for DC Comics.  Still where those that mean for Six Flags who uses them? Hmmm.

Anyway, will see what the future holds but with all this concept design for Gotham City theme park. I can’t help to think that we can still see concept in the future for Island’s of Adventure.  I still be sad when Spider-Man is removed. BUT ONE WORD FOR DISNEY, DON’T SCREW SPIDER-MAN UP. I don’t want to see a mesh-up of Mickey and Spidey adventure.

So, if anybody has more information or knows more about this Project X Gotham City theme Park. Sound Off here.

BTW: I could see Universal do the cheap thing and rip off the theme of Scifi land at Universal Studios Singapore and turn the Hulk coaster into the Battlestar Galactica coaster.  That would be a cheap thing to do. I would like to see a real Battlestar Galactica dark ride instead.

Ok, here’s the links emails about the Gotham City theme park of Universal Studios Orlando. It was a multi part series and you can email the guy who was one of the person that was pitch this theme park idea.

Yeah, really look awesome.  There was a lot to say about this project.  I was surprise very little talk about this can't be found by people like Jim Hill, Disneyblogspot, or Screamscape.  It seem this comic book artist was one of the few people who really show what this project would have been like. I tried to summarize as best I can of given how much information was posted by the Jeff Tucker it has hard to keep in short so yeah, very long post their. Anyway, glad you like it. I really see a lot of what didn't happen with this project what later they do with Harry Potter. Some ideas like making the building real, would some how make it 's way where those doors to the shops of Harry Potter are real door with working handles.  Also, time will tell, but Marvel is on it's way out.  There are a lot of rumors of what's next and even survey's , so I bet DC could be a cost effect replacement only if Six Flags has some say into this.   If there one thing I learn from listening to the Season Pass is that no idea is ever left behind. Something alway comes out from pass ideas. So, here looking to the future from the past. Very Happy

I don't kwow, for the amoutn of $4 that Universal sunk into Spiderman, I don't see that going away anytime soon. It was my understanding that the sale of Marvel to Disney included any prexisting rides or options will stay with Universal.  I could be wrong there though.  I can see Disney pushing marvel overseas but I doubt it will have much presence in the US market for some time, asside from the random items on shelves, etc.

That being said I DO want to see and Iron (man)Duck/Gonzo Figure.  That would be sweet.
As for the Gotham Prject, I for one would love to see that.  Especially if I get to ride in the Tumbler.  Seriously, I WANT TO RIDE IN THAT THING.  I already have a Warthog under my belt but that Tumbler is calling me.

The Project itself would be great, but like the Six Flags Batman stuff it might get outdated too fast.    Time will tell I suppose.
