According to TimeOnline the newest thrill ride
The Swarm at Thorp Park in London has been dismembering test dummies.
Quote:
After crash-test dummies returned from a test ride missing multiple limbs, Thorpe Park enlisted the help of ex The Blades, former RAF and Red Arrows pilots, to serve as the first live riders. One pilot told the Metro the ride was certainly “gut-wrenching” and the near-miss elements were “eye-watering.”
“You really do feel as if you are going to crash into the structures,” he said about the series of extreme near misses and inversions.
Quote:
The “winged” ride doesn’t give visitors anywhere to hide during the “flight through apocalyptic devastation on Europe’s tallest winged rollercoaster,” leaving arms and legs dangling freely on the floorless ride. An inverted drop of 127 feet highlights the ride that includes the illusion that riders will strike buildings.
Not sure if it is all just more g-hype to get the media and the crowd excited. Guess we will see. Any thoughts on this? THe video is the usual hype up with little information given, but it is a teaser of what's to come for this winged coaster.
My apologies if this was already posted and I missed it.

If this coaster was in the US and actually did have the risk of chopping somebody's arm off it would not be able to operate until this was fixed. Either by moving what ever was causing the problem or by restraining the rider's arms so they couldn't stretch out that far. I realize this is in the U.K. and their standards and safety regulations are different. _________________ Hello Everyone!
Agreed, I do think it is a marketing trick now. This is not a new thing and, following it up with ex-fighter pilots just proves this. Coasters often destroy test dummies during the testing phase. That is why they use dummies test and reset variables.
I have to say it is a great gimic to get the press in on it and build the hype. Alton Towers did it with 13 (in other ways of course), but the idea is still the same. Over sensationalize what will probably be fun but overrated coaster. I guess we will have to wait and see.

You would think this could deter people from riding considering accident coaster is good pr. I guess UK audience has a lot of back bone then a U.S coaster rider.
