Worlds of FunWell we got on the road a bit later than intended yesterday morning, leaving Ames around 7:30 am. The weather in Kansas City was forecast to consist of lightning and thunder all day so I honestly wasn't in too much of a hurry to get down there. But, as we got within half an hour of the park, the weather started to clear up so I began to get anxious. I arrived at the park at 11:25 and was excited to see everything running. I was even more excited to see a completely empty parking lot! in the first hour I was able to score 3 rides on their new coaster, Prowler!
And as the day carried on the park became ever more deserted, which I thought was next to impossible. By 3pm every single ride in the park was a walk on. I would get off of a ride, run around through the queue again, and be in the station before the train I had just been on left. It was amazing. I rode Patriot, their B&M Invert, around 7pm and was able to count the cars in the parking lot while going up the lift hill.... 23. Their were a few lingering buses too, but only a couple of them.
As far as WoF's ride quality goes, they are easily the best in the region. Granted, they really dont have any competition. But Mamba is one of my favorite Morgan hypers, almost as good as Dorney Park's Steel Force. And infinitely better than Wild Thing. Patriot may be my favorite Invert or, if nothing else, a close second to Cedar Point's Raptor. Timberwolf is a rickety old woodie, but it provides a few solid pops of air and some decent forces so I can't complain. Spinning Dragons is a cookie cutter coaster identical to Fairly Odd Coaster at Nickelodeon Universe (Formerly Timberland Twister at Camp Snoopy. R.I.P.). Boomerang is, obviously, the typical Vekoma Boomerang and nothing to get excited about. And then there's Prowler. This new GCII woodie is a beautiful fusion of a twister coaster and a terrain coaster as it winds along the ground into the woods East of the park. It has plenty of airtime and quick turns, leaving riders with a feeling of excitement no matter how many times they experience it. I can personal vouch for that since I rode it 17 times all together yesterday and never got even close to bored with it.
All said and done I managed 31 coaster laps yesterday during the 8.5 hours I was there. That is a new PR for me, as well as the 17 on Prowler alone. It was an incredible day.
