Real Lord of the Rings theme park coming.

A while back I posted that a Lord of the Rings park was coming to Spain.  While it wasn't a real theme park in terms of rides, games and amusement entrainment, it was a sort of renaissance fair concept in design.  But now comes rumors that a real Lord of the Rings theme park is coming to the Orlando area.  Lord of the Rings has become the Star Wars for the 21st century due to it’s highly successful run at the box office and with more films, TV shows, games on the way this next step seem logical.
The latest rumors has pointed to recent surveys by Universal Studios and Disney Parks asking the question about the next film franchise they want to see at the parks.  Movies on the the list was Avatar(too soon), Twilight( Oh, god please no), Willy Wonka( Maybe should do another sequel first), Stephen King, or Douglas Adams properties.
While there been a lot of “Blue Sky” talk about these properties, the one that has gain the most traction is Lord of the Rings.  Many fan sites of Lord of the Rings and J.R.R Tolkien have reported talk with Universal and Disney.  Many have reported a email done by Disney giving a pitch to the Lord of the Rings theme park.  Here’s a quote from that email.
Quote:
Imagine if you will a world unlike any you’ve ever visited before: it’s Middle Earth, the ancient and beautiful land forged by J.R.R. Tolkien as the backdrop for his two most well known creations, Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Walk as a human among dwarves, elves, orcs and hobbits — all faithfully recreated and portrayed in the spirit of the original characters as they appeared in both the books and the movies. In this land you’ll experience one-of-a-kind rides and attractions that bring to life some of the most memorable experiences of Tolkien’s world including Bilbo’s hobbit hole, the fortress at Isengard (before it was destroyed) and even the dark world of Mordor — including the terrifying volcanic Mount Doom.

So, What do you guy’s think.  I really love this.  I want this next park to be a Lord of the Rings theme park and I hope Universal gets it.  One reason I’m against Disney for this was that at one time Disney have opten the rights to the movie franchise for a scene in the Hollywood Studios “Great Movie Ride”.  Bob Iger has pass on the rights, so Disney never got a chance to do it. I glad because from what I herad from people like Jim Hill, they were only going to use it for one area in the “Great Movie Ride” at Hollywood Studios and that was it. This to me sounded awful, I mean just one scene and that’s it.  This seem a waste for a good series of films and books. Also, Disney doesn't need it.  They have Pixar, soon Marvel and a wealth of good films that can be so utilize at the parks then buying the rights to another IP they not going to full developed(like Star Wars).  But, with the success of Harry Potter and how Universal handle the property I bet pure gold that Lord of the Rings can make a good addition to the Universal resort. So we can all look forward to our Universal maps looking a bit more rich like this.

This be interesting but like other projects, by the time they were built the properties would be outdated.  After waiting for the Hobbit for so long, the public has lost interest which is another reason studios are so reluctant to put money into anther film.  I would love this as I am certain I could weasel my way into a creative position having knowledge of the props and builds, etc.  But I honestly don't see this recapturing the amount of capital it would take to get it up and running.  From a timeline perspective it just would not make financial sense.

Of course if a Rich Prince from a certain country were to decide it "MUST BE BUILT", then that would be a different story, but in the US... sadly, probably not.  If it does I can only hope they ask us here to do a chunk of the work.

Oh, come on now. Out dated IP"s.  What's with Harry Potter after the movies being wrap up or Battlestar Galactica coaster in Singapore after ther series has ended, or the Little Mermaid ride at two Disney parks.
Granted most things are timely due to it's life in the popular cultural, but If it's good enough to en dour like a Star Wars then why not build it.  Look how many people on Season Pass podcast wasn't thrill with the new Star Tours 2.  Still it's has the legs to keep going even after Lucas lack luster movies sequels.
Anyway, I believe in Lord of the Rings as the next big property, I hope it will come. There's a lot of life in Tolkien work still and you know that nobody say's no or walk away from piles of money, hey just look at what Lucas is doing with Star Wars. Wait, maybe that's a bad example, but still I think Mr. Jackson and his team respect the J.R.R Tolkien enough that something will great will come out.  Here's hoping,
btw: Hey, what about the Peter Jackson Halo thing. I alway's wonder has the project coming along?

I see what your saying, I just think the popularity has dropped a bit.  Guess we will se what happens.  I might just be a bit bitter from waiting all this time for the job.  Maybe...

As for HALO, honestly you know as much as I do.  We did the HALO 3 game shorts (see my pic to the left) and then ... tick ... tock.. nothing, then we moved on to District 9, so as far as I know that was still shelved.
